EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK
"This book focuses on the large element of nature or genetics in the development of greatness. This is in no way to deny the environmental or chance factors. Nature and nurture are intertwined. Environmental factors were grossly overemphasised in the past. This book is an attempt to redress the balance. While genes do not equate with destiny, they are far more important than we realised in the mid twentieth century. While it might take another fifty to a hundred years to unravel all the multiple genes of small effect involved, we have nevertheless managed to take the first small step. Genetic dopamine polymorphisms associated with novelty appear to play a part in some types of great creativity, research and exploration. Clearly these interact with many other genes that we do not know about today.
There appears to be two types of novelty seeking, one associated with ADHD and the other with autism. Where there are major differences in these two types of creativity they overlap in the search for novelty, originality, exploration of new lands, etc."
